The 2020 edition, taking place from October 1 to 4, will be the 10th anniversary of the Geneva Brass Festival! After a 2019 marked by great performances, this anniversary edition is going vintage: returning to its origins of more intimate spheres and brass chamber music.
The festival will start off with an original piece for trombone quartet and ensemble, a musical tale of ecology and the inheritance of future generations. It’s an equally great way to celebrate 10 years of Fanfaribole de Sion!
Following that, the Geneva Brass Quintet will return to the festival as part of a collaboration with Ensemble Vide in the magical place of Arcoop, Carouge. The concert will show off both contemporary and Baroque pieces, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Ensemble Vide in Arcoop.
The brass quintet of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romand, accompanied by Aude Cattin, will entertain the younger audience with a circus-themed performance.
And finally, the “international” part will celebrate the Swiss release of the new album by the French brass quintet “Alliance”, dedicated to the Seasons by Vivaldi and Piazzolla. Alliance has always supported the GBF through its own festival “Cuivres en Dombes”, which is one of the major brass festivals in Europe. This is why it was important to us that we invite them to celebrate these past 10 years.
Three brass quintets to celebrate this triple tin anniversary, a metal used to assemble our instruments: quite the symbol! Welcome to GBF 2020!
Founded in 2010 by Christophe Sturzenegger, the Geneva Brass Festival is a yearly event which puts the spotlight on the family of brass instruments. In association with numerous partners (OSR, HEM, Conservatoire de Genève, Radio Télévision Suisse,….), each year the festival allows the Genevan public to discover or rediscover the world of brass instruments.
Through brass bands, world music, jazz, classical, baroque or electronic music, brass sound resonates in Geneva during those few days of festival. The GBF has 3 aims in its program: international (Mnozil, Spanish Brass, Berlin Brass,…), regional (local brass bands, ensembles of the region,…) and pedagogical, with masterclasses and « young public » concerts.
